The Norwegian daily Aftenposten has expressed the annoyance of the nation at Obama's rearranging of the proposed schedule for his visit to Oslo. When he picked up his Nobel Prize, they had him planned for three days of events . He's stayed for just one. Among the activities he felt it alright to pass on was lunch with the Norwegian king. According to a poll taken there in the land of fjords, only a third of respondents felt it was acceptable for Obama to pass up on chowing down with King Harald. 44% said it was rude.
The lunch was a big part of the country's taking umbrage at the American president's perceived "arrogance". What they don't seem to be keeping in mind is that the awards are given for services rendered to humankind, not for noshing with their monarch. Norwegians should give their heads a collective shake and get over it.
