Life's Most Persistent Question

Martin Luther King, Jr., once declared, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" What a perfect time to ask this question today, on Martin Luther King day. This was a day that started its life in 1986 as a national holiday set aside to remember the life of this winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, but in '94 its focus was changed to a day of service to others.
For those citizens in the States who want to take their first steps toward making the world a better place SERVE.GOV offers a great starting place. You can find already-existing volunteer opportunities or register your own new project. Anyone who visits the site will be told that,
"(t)he President is calling on all Americans to participate in our nation's recovery and renewal..." Hopefully everyone who visits will be inspired to take it from there, to move forward in a selfless spirit of giving that will take this one MLK day and make it instead into an endless honouring of everyone's right to a life of freedom and peace.

Unfortunately, there are way too many people looking for someone to do something for them, instead of the other way around.
