A couple of news flashes:
The Angus Reid Forum is a current online reincarnation of the original Angus Reid Group, a market research company founded in 1979. The company has grown and Angus Reid Strategies, along with its sister company Vision Critical, is now the largest Canadian-owned market research enterprise. I would imagine that you can trust their findings. They were, for instance, the most accurate pollster to predict the outcome of the 2008 Canadian federal election.
Keeping that in mind, I think it interesting that they even felt the need to ask Canadians what the Olympic event was that they most wanted to watch, and funny that they themselves couldn't predict the answer. It seems that 75% of Canadians surveyed said that Ice Hockey was THE event they were most likely to watch, other than the Opening Ceremonies.
Quelle surprise, eh?
The other tidbit I would like to present for your delectation is the ranking recently given to my Alma Mater, the University of Toronto. The University of Toronto is currently the world's ninth strongest university as judged by academics around the world. The finding was part of the Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings. Based on a recent survey of more than 9,000 academics worldwide, the U of T took that 9th place overall among 621 universities ranked. The U of T placed:
*8th worldwide in Engineering
*11th worldwide in Life Sciences
*11th worldwide in Arts and Humanities
*14th worldwide in Natural Sciences
*15th worldwide in Social Sciences
If you're looking for an institute of higher education, or you're simply curious, follow the link and you'll find all kinds of incredible stats, like the fact that in all of North America, only Harvard surpasses the U of T faculty for co-authoring research articles.
Established in 1827, my Alma Mater continues to lay down tracks to the future.
